Our new 3D printer at the Kettering campus has been put to good use already with HNC, HND and Level 3 students trying out 3D models to be printed. Thomas one of our Art and Design technicians has been sharing his product design expertise and delivering workshops in sessions using Tinkercad to show students how to create 3D models which they can then print.
Through a contact at Cardiff University we discovered this amazing little 3D printing press template available from the Open Press Project https://openpressproject.com
Thomas and Katie had a go at printing the press and added the felt and screws, it can now be used to create tiny but perfectly formed linocut and drypoint etching prints! One of our UAL Level 3 Art and Design, year 2 students in Corby tried it out to print these little linocut leaves.
We look forward to sharing printmaking techniques and this super tiny press with the local community at Kettering Arts Centre Arts Day for a postage stamp printing workshop in March. We are in the middle of printing another press for our Kettering campus.
